兰叶春葳蕤,桂华秋皎洁。
The leaves of orchids in spring are luxuriant,
And the osmanthus flowers in autumn are briliant.
欣欣此生意,自尔为佳节。
The vitality of plants is flourishing in the world,
Which naturally conforms 
to the beautiful seasons.
谁知林栖者,闻风坐相悦。
Who knows, in the mountain woods, the recluse
Has been filled with joy because of the fragrances?
草木有本心,何求美人折!
It is the nature of the plants that expire fragrance.
They will not require the recluse to pick them off.

张九龄(一名博物,678年(或673年)—740年),字子寿,韶州曲江(今广东省韶关市)人,西汉留侯张良之后,西晋壮武郡公张华十四世孙,唐朝著名政治家、文学家、诗人、名相,被誉为“岭南第一人”。唐中宗景龙初年进士,始调校书郎。玄宗即位,迁右补阙。唐玄宗开元时历官中书侍郎、同中书门下平章事、中书令。母丧夺哀,拜同平章事。自张九龄去世后,唐玄宗对宰相推荐之士,总要问“风度得如九龄否?”因此,张九龄一直为后世人所崇敬。
